The Future of Tourism Summit: “Creating a Climate for Collaboration”

We invite you to join us at the Future of Tourism Coalition's first-ever in-person event on 29 September 2022 at the iconic Technopolis City of Athens, Greece. This event looks forward to providing a remarkable opportunity for uniting destinations, communities, and the travel industry toward climate resilience and climate action. Further, this landmark event will focus on destinations' central role in accomplishing the Glasgow Declaration for Climate Action in Tourism goals. Through this event, we will explore how to make positive progress towards hitting Net Zero targets through decisive and collaborative action at the destination level. Watch live below.

Throughout the day there will be interventions and discussion from a range of experts including:

  • Nadine Pinto, Sustainability Manager, The Travel Corporation

  • Janie Neumann, Sustainable Tourism Manager, Visit Scotland

  • Anthony Everett, President & CEO, 4VI (formerly Visit Vancouver Island)

  • Liisa Kokkarinen, Head of Sustainable Development, Visit Finland

  • Alexia Panagiotopoulou, Head of Strategy, Athens Development and Destination Management Agency (City of Athens)

  • Kristen Bertuglia - Environmental Sustainability Director, Town of Vail, Colorado

  • Candace Strauss, VP, Partnerships & Community Engagement, WANDER

  • Hugh Felton, Sustainable Tourism Manager, ABTA

  • Sofya Muhrer-Muromets, Sustainability Coordinator, TourRadar (TBC)

A crucial element of the Summit is an ‘Action Group’ workshop to foster collective thinking and create new pathways for collaboration on climate action, leading towards globally relevant solutions. The aim is for participants, supported by global experts, to feed into an Athens Call to Action, to be used as a cornerstone for impact following the Summit. There will also be an opportunity for participants to formally sign the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism.

This year our Summit is part of the Green Destinations 2022 Conference. The summit is sponsored by Beyond Green and TTG is the official media partner.
